3. The brand (商标) name puts a face on every company. Names like McDonald's, GM, Apple, Intel, and a large number of others have long become very popular. They've also given customers a point of reference when thinking about a company. Good brand names might help companies avoid heavy costs and bring them greater profits.Usually companies create names that are easy to learn and remember. Firstly, the name should create interest. Rhymes (押韵) and humor are some ways to gain interest, but there are others as well. Think about your customers and what would interest them. Secondly, the name should present a picture or image. People remember them most because the name is stored in pictures and words. Thirdly, the name should be meaningful. It can be done with lots of advertising, but names that are themselves more meaningful to customers are more easily stored in memory. More important, the name should have meaningful associations that show the benefits customers want. Then the name should have some emotion. Emotional associations are easier to learn and remember. The Love Boat, for instance, is very easy to remember. Finally, the name should be simple so that it is easier to learn and remember.31. Why does the passage mention the brand names such as McDonald's and GM in the first paragraph?____ A. To show that a good brand name is significant for a company. B. To tell readers that they are important and popular terms.C. To introduce some well-known brand names to readers.D. To explain why those companies are successful.
2. It was not yet eleven o'clock when a boat crossed the river with a single passenger who had obtained his transportation at that unusual hour by promising an extra fare. While the youth stood on the landing-place searching in his pocket for money, the ferryman lifted a lantern, by the aid of which, together with the newly risen moon, he took a very accurate survey of the stranger's figure. He was a young man of barely eighteen years, evidently country bred, and now, as it seemed, on his first visit to town. He was wearing a tough gray coat, which was in good shape, but which had seen many winters before this one. The garments under his coat were well constructed of leather, and fitted tightly to a pair of muscular legs; his stockings of blue yarn must have been the work of a mother or sister, and on his head was a three-cornered hat, which in its better days had perhaps sheltered the grayer head of the lad's father. In his left hand was a walking stick, and his equipment was completed by a leather bag not so abundantly stocked as to inconvenience the strong shoulders on which it hung. Brown, curly hair, well-shaped features, bright, cheerful eyes were nature's gifts, and worth all that art could have done for his adornment. The youth, whose name was Robin, paid the boatman, and then walked forward into the town with a light step, as if he had not already traveled more than thirty miles that day. As he walked, he surveyed his surroundings as eagerly as if he were entering London or Madrid, instead of the little metropolis of a New England colony.26. The story took place in____.A. spring B. summer C. fall D. winter
21. The sun sends out huge amounts of energy, not only to Earth, but to all other planets in the solar system and directly into space. The source of all that energy is nuclear fusion (核聚变) occurring at the sun’s core. The Large Helical Device being developed at the Ministry of Educational Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS) is essentially an “artificial sun” that aims to reproduce this nuclear fusion on Earth. “Nuclear fusion is a reaction in which nuclei of light atoms such as hydrogen combine to form nuclei of heavier atoms such as helium (氦). If we can utilize the huge amounts of energy released by this reaction, nuclear fusion will then constitute a completely new, clean and never ending source of energy,” says NIFS Director Atsui Iiyoshl. In many respects, fusion is far superior to the various conventional energy sources currently in use. Fusion seems to have tremendous potential as a new source of energy. But to produce fusion reactions on Earth, it is necessary to meet a set of critical plasmatic (等离子区) conditions, including ultra-high temperatures of 100 million degrees or so centigrade - a state that refuses to imagine. To meet this challenge, Japanese scientists have come up with their own unique helical device that is particularly safe and is suitable for continuous operation. The large Helical Device now being developed is expected to be completed by the end of next year, with experiments scheduled to start at the beginning of 1998.(10分)21.1 The phrase “artificial sun” in the first paragraph probably means “________”.(2分)A. a man-made sun B.
